Joseph Edward Fuerst, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2018. Joe was born in 1931 in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He spent his early years with loving parents, Albert and Marie Fuerst, and five siblings. He developed a love of flowers and gardening while helping his father with his greenhouses and always took pride in caring for his own yard, flowers and garden. His teen years were spent in San Antonio, Florida where his father retired. He graduated from St. Leo College Prep in St. Leo, Florida and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War assigned to General Barnes plane and flew extensively with him and his crew. He came to Atlanta with a job at Lockheed in Marietta and retired from Federal Aviation Administration in 1989.
Joe met his wife, Patricia, while living in Atlanta. They were married in 1960 and made their home in Smyrna, GA, Nashville, TN and the last 12 years in Cumming, GA. He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Smyrna, GA and served as an Eucharistic Minister, the first treasurer of the Mens Club, and as an active member with the Church. He has been a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumming GA for last 12 years.
He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Children: Theresa Sellers of Cumming GA, Eddie (Laura) Fuerst of Flower Mound, TX, and Jim (Karrie) Fuerst of Cumming, GA; seven grandchildren: Lauren (Justin) Linck, Katherine Sellers, Joey Fuerst, Mattie Fuerst, Jake Fuerst, Ryan Fuerst, and Evan Fuerst; Two Great Grandchildren: Elaine and Thomas Linck; Sister, Rose Kosater of Macon, GA and brother, Bill (Rosemond) of Bartlett, TN; Fourteen nieces and nephews.
Visitation is at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GAon Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass at The Church of the Good Shepherdon Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11 am. Burial will be held at National Cemetery in Canton, GAon Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 1pm.
Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming is in charge of arrangements.
