Joyce Wallace Hawkins

Joyce Wallace Hawkins, age 74 of Cumming, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015, following a brief illness. A life-long resident of Forsyth County, Joyce was a graduate of Forsyth County High School, Class of 1958, and Reinhardt College, Class of 1960. She worked for several years at Forsyth County Hospital and Drs. Mashburn and Dunn in Cumming. Joyce then began an almost 40-year tenure in the Probate Court of Forsyth County where she served as elected Judge of Probate Court for more than 28 years. She retired in 2004 and remained Judge Emeritus until her death. A faithful member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Joyce served in many capacities, and was church pianist/organist for 65 years. She also served as District Lay Leader for the United Methodist Church, Atlanta-Roswell District. Joyce was a dedicated musician and leader in the Holbrook Campground throughout her life. She was also an active member of the Forsyth County chapter of the Civitan Club for more than 25 years. She spent her life loving her family, helping others and striving to make her community a better place. Joyce is preceded in death by her late husband, Rex Hawkins, as well as her parents, B. B. Wallace and Willie Lou Wallace, all of Cumming. She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Anne Cox, son-in-law Jim Cox, grandchildren Rex Cox and Anna Cox, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Wesley Walraven, nieces and nephews Valerie and Kurt Ross, Cynthia and Pat Ripley, all of Cumming; Donna and Rick Jenkins of Waleska, Terrie and Casey Sosebee of Ellijay, Sherrie and Norman MacIsaac of Dunstable, UK, Judy and Don Mampel of Ball Ground, Robert and Gail Worley of Ellijay, and sister-in-law Jackie Hawkins of Cumming. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Joyce Wallace Hawkins will be held Thursday, June 18 at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Ted Miller, Dr. Bob Bowling, and Rev. Jim McGraw. The Eulogy will be delivered by Wesley Walraven. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Thursday, 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
