Judy Maxwell Benson, age 70, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 24 after a brave, brief fight with cancer. She will be long remembered for her beautiful Christian life, her love and compassion for her beloved husband and precious family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Judy was born in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Pennock and Josephine Maxwell. She was one of seven children. She began work at the local bank following graduation from Baxter Seminary. Her working career continued in the business office of Tennessee Technological University, followed by employment in city government of Cookeville, Tennessee. After moving to Atlanta with her husband and son, she worked in the Atlanta school system, the Clayton County school system, and retired from the Fulton County school system after 25 years of service as an elementary school secretary. Judy was an active member in the Methodist Church her whole life. She served in many roles over the years including Youth Counselor with Jim, at East Point United Methodist Church. They moved their membership to Midway United Methodist in 1997 where they have been since. She is predeceased by a sister, June Lee Maxwell. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim Benson, her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Amanda Benson of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandsons Nicholas and Robby Benson, granddaughter Lauren Benson, sisters Ruth Keisler and husband Bud of Baxter, Tennessee; Carole Lynch and husband Kendall of Nashville, Tennessee; brothers Dan Maxwell and wife Betty of Baxter, Tennessee; Bob Maxwell and wife Onelia of Cookeville, Tennessee; and Larry Maxwell and wife Barbara of Smyrna, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday May 26th from 2-4pm and 6-9pm at the funeral home. Services will be conducted Sunday May 27th at 4pm at First United Methodist Church Cumming. Grave Services will be conducted at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Tuesday May 29th at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1800 Water Place, Suite 245, Atlanta, Georgia 30339-2041.
