Judy Marie Spivia

Judy Marie Spivia, 80, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023.

She was born to the late Dee & Geneva Swanson, August 7, 1942, in Cherokee County, North Carolina.  Judy graduated from Hiawassee High School.

She married the late Edwin (Ed) Spivia in 1960, and they were together 22 years.  Afterwards, Judy spent over 30 years with her loving companion, Grant Rice.

Judy was passionate about family and was a loyal, dedicated employee.  After years as a Homemaker, she went to work for Hall’s Flower Shop, Atlanta Prosthetics, and ended her work life at Cornerstone Schools, where she made sure every child was safe, healthy and happy while in her care.  In retirement, Judy truly loved helping with her family’s business, The Lakewood 400 Antiques Market, where she “never met a stranger”, and was a tireless advocate of the monthly antiques show.

Judy is survived by her loving companion, Grant Rice, sons, Rhett Spivia (Paula), and Greg Spivia (Amy), Grandchildren, Tara Medlock, Brandon Spivia and Kamryn Spivia, Great-Grandchildren, Ava Medlock and Landon Jones, Brother, Kenneth Swanson, and Niece, Lisa Jackson (Jimmy).

Judy was happiest when taking care of her family and beloved pets.  She was an avid animal lover, and enjoyed daily visits from squirrels, birds and her favorite cardinals outside her kitchen window.

A private ceremony for family members will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the countless friends and extended family members who shared so much love with Judy over the years, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Forsyth County Humane Society in her memory.
