Julie Garrett Nichols, age 71, died suddenly on Jan. 3, 2025. From a military family, Julie lived in Alabama, New York, Puerto Rico, Virginia & Germany before graduating from the University of Alabama. In 1980, she moved to Richmond, VA , earned a post-graduate certificate in Information Systems from Virginia Commonwealth University, and worked in Richmond for many years. She later worked in Alabama and Georgia before retiring to Cumming.
Julie was fiercely independent and proud of her ability to support herself in work and retirement. She was an accomplished pianist and very artistic, drawing, painting & creating jewelry. She loved her dogs, of which she had many, and enjoyed gardening.
Julie was predeceased by her parents, Col. William Nichols and Lida Foster Nichols, her sisters Lida S. Nichols and Susan Smith-McDonald, and her brother William M. Nichols, Jr.
She is survived by her sister Kathleen Miller (E.G.), her niece April Smith, and nephews Lt. Brian Smith, Adam McDonald, Robert Miller, and Clarke Miller.
