Junie Oliver Wooten, a 23 year resident of Cumming, Ga. died Wednesday, August 6th at Kennestone Hospital, where he experienced complications from a head injury. He was 85 years old. J.O. grew up in Rome Georgia where he met his wife of 65 years, Marianne. He was employed by Southern Bell from 1946-1987 where he retired after 40 years of service. From 1950-1952, he was enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he was appointed staff sergeant. J.O. enjoyed gardening, trout fishing, and spending time with his grandsons. He attended the First Baptist Church of Cartersville, Rome, and Tucker, Ga., and more recently Ebenezer Baptist of Dunwoody and Forsyth Primitive Baptist. One of his favorite activities was singing in the choir. He also drove a church bus and assisted handicapped individuals in getting to church. Another of his favorite past times was participating in Sacred Harp singing. He was a man who consistently looked to the needs of others, often above his own needs. J.O. is survived by his wife, Marianne, who resides in Cumming, son Mark Wooten of Cumming, daughter Valerie Jenkins of Cumming, daughter Laurie McCafferty of Cleveland, and grandsons Dylan and Kyle Jenkins, and Ryan Wooten. J.O. was truly a man of integrity, never wavering in his moral character. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren and has left a legacy that is unquestionable. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11th at 2:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Edward Cagle officianting. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 pm until hour of the service.
