Mary Kathleen Henderson Heard (Gravitt), 101 of Cumming, Georgia passed away November 21, 2024.Born February 14th, 1923 to James Ezra Gravitt and Sally Youngblood Gravitt, “Kat” spent her 101 years of life and raised her family in Forsyth County.
Kat was the oldest member of Beaver Ruin Baptist Church, where she attended all her life, and the last living member of Beaver Ruin School. She loved her church and her church family, blessing them every Sunday by presenting herself in high couture fashion and her signature matching hat. She had a large assortment of friends of all ages. Babies and children flocked to her side. She loved church singings, the Youngblood reunion, and Homecoming. Kat was known for her home cooking, especially her fried okra, creamed corn, and biscuits. At a moment’s notice, she could whip up a pound cake and even made one the night before the Lord called her home. Granny made sure everyone was fed; it didn’t matter if you werehungry or not, you were going to eat.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Cleburn Henderson; husband Hoyt Heard; siblingsHorace “Willis” Gravitt, Robert “Clay” Gravitt, and Lorene McGee (Gravitt); daughter Martha Walle (Heard);son-in-law David Bealle; grandson James “Rusty” Henderson; and her beloved best friend and dog, Lucy.
Kat is survived by her daughter, Janet Bealle; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Kathy Henderson; grandchildren Jodi (Raul) Toledo, Jamie (Jason) Watkins, Robbie (Molly) Henderson, Laura (Sean) Davies, Mark (Alison) Walle, and Max Bealle; 16 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
