Kathy Looper Sams, 78, of Canton, Georgia, passed peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 28, 1944, in Dawsonville, Georgia, to Jesse Felton and Laura Sisson Looper. She had a modest upbringing that was grounded in love and faith. She graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1961 and attended Marietta-Cobb Area Vocational and Technical School where she studied Cosmetology. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Herbert Sams, on February 17, 1962. They soon started a family of their own with two daughters and lived very happily in Cumming, Georgia, for 44 years. They were overjoyed as the family later expanded to include three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Kathy loved her family and friends deeply. She was a fabulous cook, an avid gardener, a talented seamstress, and a best friend to many. She was always eager to embark upon an adventure and had a mischievous streak. She often reminisced about her two round trips across the United States with her family in an RV, countless road trips and related shenanigans, and that one time when she bravely stepped on an airplane to ultimately board a cruise ship when she was well into her adult years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her kindness, big smile, infectious laugh, generous and caring nature, and boundless zest for life.
Surviving are her husband of almost 61 years, Herbert Sams; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Lynn Rowland and Kimberly and Donald Gray; grandchildren, Emilee (Andrew) Cooper, Joseph (Chelsea) Rowland, and Allyssa Rowland; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Olivia, and Nevaeh Cooper; sister, Barbara (Glenn) Mullinax; brother, Warren Looper; and sister-in-law, Robin Looper; her life-long friend, Jessie Payne; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters, Audrey Champion Wright, Ruth Sutton, and Janie Grace Cox; brother, Gary Looper; and her dear friend and partner in adventures, Deanna Mullinax.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday February 15, 2023 at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ricky Byrd officiating. Entombment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
