Kenneth Marion Lewis, 88, of Dahlonega, formerly of Atlanta, passed away March 5th after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. He was born in Miller, South Dakota, on March 9, 1923, to Frank and Lucin Lewis. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, flying 105 missions over the Hump (China to India) as a radio operator, and received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Ken graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1949, where he majored in voice and played on the varsity football team. He enjoyed being a manufacturers representative for many years, as well as singing as a soloist in several Atlanta churches.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rosemary Posy Lewis, sons Ken Lewis Jr., Scott Lewis (Shirley), and Jeff Lewis (Kathleen), daughter Nancy Denham (Toby), six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Verna Denett (Walt), and Libby and Frank Love.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Turner; sons Bill and Stuart Lewis; and daughter-in-law Lisen Lewis. His family extends heartfelt thanks to Compassionate Hospice, nurse Mary Jo Hitt, and Danielle Nimtz for their loving care during Kens illness.
A family memorial service will be held in the spring. Anyone who wishes to memorialize Ken is encouraged to make a donation to the Alzheimers Association in the community of the donors choice.
