Larry Duane Hood, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong resident of Forsyth County, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. He was born in Cumming on September 13, 1943. He was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church. Duane was married to Cheryl Bragg Hood for 56 years prior to her passing in 2024. He also proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Duane is survived by his children, Dee (Hank) Gravitt and Debbie (Jason) Logan, and grandchildren Carter and Elladee Gravitt and Jake and Kinley Logan. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill (Gena) Hood, Margie Charles, Linda Lang, and David (Tammy) Hood and sister-in-law Linda Hood. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his wife Cheryl, he is preceded in death by his parents, Ezell and Lois Hood, his twin brother, Dean Hood, and brothers-in-law Richard Charles and Bud Lang.
Growing up in the Midway Community, Duane owned and operated Hood’s Auto Service for over 50 years. A skilled and dedicated mechanic, he was known for his honesty, integrity, and unwavering work ethic. His commitment to his craft and his willingness to help others endeared him to countless customers and friends. Duane had a servant’s heart, always ensuring that those in need received help, often repairing vehicles regardless of one’s ability to pay. Duane's kindness and selflessness left a lasting impact on his community.
Family meant everything to Duane. He shared a special bond with his siblings, who, in turn, devoted themselves to ensuring he received the best care. His passion for cars, especially antique restorations, was also something he shared deeply with brothers Dean and David. Their love of restoring classic cars brought them countless hours of joy and companionship. Duane took immense pride in his own 1955 Chevrolet, meticulously caring for it and never letting it get caught in the rain. Together, the brothers made a dynamic team with Dean mastering the paint and bodywork while David and Duane perfected the mechanics. Prior to Dean’s passing in 2015, Duane made his final stop each day at Dean’s Body Shop before heading home. Their unbreakable bond was a true testament to the strength of brotherly love.
Duane will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Funeral services to remember Duane’s life will be held on April 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Coal Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ingram’s Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
