Larry Thomas Tate, 74, passed away Sunday, June 5th at home after a 4-year battle with cancer.
Larry was born on November 17th, 1947, in Cumming Ga. Cumming is where he was raised by his parents, Ralph and Viola Tate with his 2 brothers. Larry attended Forsyth County High school and then went to work for General Motors Company at 21. He worked multiple positions across 4 states until he finally settled back down in Forsyth County. He worked in the body & trim department, where he enjoyed pin striping until he retired at the Lakewood Plant 31 years later.
After retirement he continued to enjoy American cars and tinkering in his garage. Larry was a big fan of NASCAR and bigger fan of Bill Elliott. Larry’s true passion was being connected to the land. He enjoyed caring for his property. He spent his time in the yard working the land and enjoying the fruits of his labor. He loved hunting and fishing. Larry learned to hunt as a young boy from his father. He became a skilled archer and rifleman. He hunted rabbits, turkey, deer, and bear from the hills of the Appalachia to the grassy preserves of South Georgia. Living near the Chattahoochee River, naturally Larry was a fisherman. Fresh or salt water, he did it all. Over the great 23 years of retirement, he got to fish just about every stream and river in North Georgia. One of Larry’s favorite things to do was grill out and fish fry with friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of 38 years Darcy Tate, wife of his children Wanda Hagins, Sons and their spouses, Sam & Tara Tate, Daryl Tate, Brian & Angie Tate, Bruce Tate & Felicia Bentley, his 8 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 9:00am-9:00pm on Wednesday 6-8-2022 at Ingrams Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be led by pastors Ruel Martin, Joe Hulsey, and Clark Watson in the chapel of Roanoke Baptist Church on Thursday 6-9-2022 at 11:00am.
