Larry Dean Watson, age 87, of Cumming Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023. He was born in Cumming, Georgia, and was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County whose contributions to the county will live on long after him.
Larry loved life and laughed often. He also worked hard and loved to keep projects going until his passing. He worked for many years at Lockheed and received his Juris Doctorate Law Degree during this time. He started his own business: Watson Digging Service and had a successful business right up until he retired. Watson Realty Company was another business he started and it is still active today. Larry was not a politician but deeply respected his community, so he served as County Commissioner in the 70s. He got his pilot’s license, and a private runway in his backyard, and fell in love with flying alone or with friends and family. One of his favorite things to do was to fly the grandkids to Mathis Airport for a coke and a candy bar.
Larry was a beloved Christian and served as a deacon for Shady Grove Baptist Church for decades and was a Master Mason and Shriner for over 60 years. He loved music and had a gift for singing and playing several instruments. He played the Bass Fiddle for a group called The Sawnee Mountain Boys and recently enjoyed performing with The Sawmill Band. Larry was the most precious and devoted husband, father, grandfather(papa), friend, and neighbor. His sense of humor, kind heart, and generous spirit was felt by all who knew him.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; James Toy Watson and Electie Irene Watson; His first wife of 63 years, Georgia Patrolene Watson; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Eldred and Mattie Watson and Wansley and Lindell Watson.
He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Imogene Watson; children, Bobby Watson, Karen Wagoner, and Alan (Phyllis) Watson; his stepchildren, Melanie (Keith) Sapp, and Tammy Satterfield; his grandchildren, Julie Watson, Dulce (Chris) Hermann, JerameyWatson, Johnathan Watson, Cori (Carly) Wagoner, Rae (Jeremy)Schmiedeberg, Kayce (Nick) Blake, Christi (Scott) Thompson, Jacob (Rae) Watson; his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Tristin, Sophia, Ridley, Watson, Matthew, and Bennett.
