Leona Peffly Martin, 79, of Homer, Georgia passed away on February 5th 2012 after a difficult 2 year battle with ALS. Her loving family was at her bedside.

She is survived by her loving husband, Grover Howard Martin. They met in Aloha, WA at a dance while he was in the Air Force. They fell deeply in love and were married for 59 years; Sons, Timothy Vaughan Martin and David Lloyd Martin; daughter, Laurie Ruth Martin; grandchildren, Tanya A, Timothy V. Jason E, Travis and Ashley Martin and Katherine L. Davenport; sister, Ruth Peffly Nostrand.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mae Peffly; brother, Raymond Lloyd Peffly and sister, Rosa Mae Motes.

She attended High School in Moclips, WA at Moclips High School. IN 1953 she graduated from Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA with an AS, She then went on to the University of Washington and in 1959 finished with a BA of Arts. After that she went on to ASU where she earned her Master's in Counseling in 1978. In 1993 she completed her certificate if study of Gerontology from the University of Georgia. She did research and volunteer work for school by working as a volunteer for the American Red Cross by offering family and marriage counseling. She was appointed and advocate by the Piedmont Court System as an appointed special advocate to represent the abused and neglected children in court proceedings.

She retired in 1997 after 11 years of employment with Gwinnett County where she worked in the department of senior services.

She was a member of the Northeast Georgia's writers club. She was an accomplished writer and a well know published poet. She had a passion for reading and also enjoyed writing and reading science fiction.

In 2003 she became the first Stephen Minister for her Church, Commerce First United Methodist Church.
