Leona Walker

Leojonney (Leona) Walker, died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA on July 29, 2015 due to natural causes . She was 88. Leona was born July 5, 1927 in Gering, Nebraska to Henry and Maria (Gettman) Kampbell. On February 28, 1946, she married Richard L. Walker in Scottsbluff, NE. The Walkers spent most all their lives living in Scottsbluff. Richard worked at Nile Valley Co-op Grain and Leona spent many years providing janitorial services to First State Bank. In 2010, they moved to Georgia to be closer to their children. In 2011, they moved into Friendship Care Facility in Cleveland, GA. Leona was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and past member of Emmanuel Congregational Church. The Walkers also belonged to the Old Settlers Club. Leona will be especially remembered for her love of family and church. She was an excellent cook and could serve a meal to a crowd on a moment's notice. She was an avid gardener and especially loved her roses. Survivors include her son Dennis and wife Judy Walker of Springfield, Missouri; son Gary and wife Denise Walker of Vero Beach, FL; daughter Nancy and husband Andrew Gentry of Medford, OR; daughter Lee Anne and husband Prescott Griggs of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Stacey, Briana, Michael, Kiel, Rosie and Phillip; great-grandchildren Jayden, Adalyn, Emily and Jace. Her husband, Richard, of 65 years, preceded Leona in death as well as her son Michael, brothers and sisters Mary Zwetzig, Harry, Katherine Herdt, Leo and Carl and her parents. Leona's funeral services will be held on August 6, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church with Pastor Jeremy Skaggs officiating, followed by a post service reception at Scottsbluff Country Club. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, along with the burial of her husband's ashes. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 5, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Joliffe Funeral Home. Preliminary funeral arrangements are with Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming, GA.
