Leslie Kenneth Pia

Leslie K. Pia Jr., 80, died April 5, 2013 with his family by his side in his home in Cumming, Georgia after fighting heart disease for over 13 years. He was born on January 7, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ to Leslie and Sophia Pia. Les received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Masters Degree in Management Sciences from Stevens Institute of Technology. He later completed an intensive five week Senior Executive Management certificate at the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
Les fenced Epee and Foil at Stevens and qualified for the 1960 USA Olympic Fencing Team. He enjoyed playing and watching tennis, but his main passion was building and repairing anything for family, friends and neighbors in need. Les was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He later joined the Masons and Shriners and was a member for over 50 years. He loved all animals and on several occasions rescued dogs and cats that later became his beloved family pets.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Nancy, his sons Ken and Rick, his grandchildren Alex, Erik and Jessica, his sister Lenore, and daddys little girl Dixie, his dog.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Byars Funeral Home (155 Professional Park Dr, Cumming, GA 30040). In lieu of flowers, please make donations in the name of Les Pia to The Humane Society of Forsyth County (4440 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, GA 30041
