Linda G Smith

After a full life, Linda G Smith, of Cumming, GA, went to her eternal resting place on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Linda was born September 20, 1945, to De’ Voyd “Gib” and Gladys Gilbert.  She was a lifelong resident of Cumming and a graduate of the class of 1963 at Forsyth County High School.

Linda was a fighter from a young age. Born with a rare lung disease, she had her first lung surgery at the age of 15. Her surgeon told her then that she did not need to hold a full-time job, get married, have children and keep her stress levels steady. She defied all odds by holding a full-time career, getting married and having two children. She took early retirement at 63 years of age. Two years later, at the age of 65, Linda was given the gift of a full breath of air when she underwent a bi-lateral lung transplant. 

She loved her family and friends, whether immediate or distance. Linda was a social person who rarely met a stranger, and she loved being surrounded by friends and family, whether at church, the coffee club or a family event, as she rarely met a stranger. She is often described as a “sweet soul” and “good friend” by those who knew her. 

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Waldrep, grandchildren, Ellie and Luke Waldrep, sister, Cheri Hendrix, and many other extended family. Linda joined her parents, Gib and Gladys Gilbert, spouse, Milton Smith, Jr. and daughter, Michelle Smith, in heaven. 

A memorial is scheduled at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA, Saturday, December 17 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service.
