Lois Bell White Garner

Lois Bell White Garner, age 88, a life-long resident of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 12th.  She was born June 22, 1935, to Ernest White and May Mills White. She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Edwin Garner, and her son, David Garner. She leaves behind her son, Mark Garner and daughter -in- law Audrey, daughter-in-law Janet, 5 grandchildren: Zachary, Ashley, and Katelyn, Nathan, and Sam, and her three precious great-grandchildren Ada, Ellis, and Sutton.

Lois graduated from Berry College in May 1957, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in education and earned both Master’s and Specialist’s degrees from the University of Georgia. She taught at Cumming Elementary School for 41 years, touching the hearts and lives of over a thousand students. Lois was a master storyteller both in the classroom and in Sunday school, where she kept many an audience on the edge of their seats. She did this for several decades at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Lois came to know Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 12, in a pew at Oak Grove Revival with her Daddy. This was after he had worked a full day on the farm. She was a faithful member at Oak Grove for many years.

Lois loved to read. She always had a stack of books next to her and visited the library on a regular basis. Lois was also an avid traveler, making several trips all over Europe. This included an eventful medivac from Russia, and trips to Israel with each of her sons. Despite having polio as a child, she never let it keep her from doing anything she wanted to do, or going where she wanted to go. She had great determination and was known for being quite a spunky lady.

She has left a legacy of faith, family, and love of country to her sons, grandchildren and community. Lois will be greatly missed here on earth, but we know she was ready to meet her Savior and those who went on before her. In this we rejoice!
