Mable R. Markland, a54 year resident of Galesburg and Windcrest Acres, died peacefully in Cumming, Georgia on May 14, 2013 where she lived with her daughter Barbara and son-in-law James Johnson since 2003. Her strong heart, iron will and positive disposition were unable to overcome the ravages of Alzheimer's disease just short of her 90th birthday.
Mable was born June 5, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, After graduating from Steinmetz High School she married Robert Scott and joined him in his Air Force role in Sebring, Florida where she gave birth to two daughters Bobbette (1943) and Barbara (1944) who were the joys of her life. She raised them with great caring, good values and consummate skill and is blessed with exceptional grandchildren and great grand children.
She served as a loyal, competent Legal Secretary for forty years for the Stuart, Nagle and West law firm and was well known in the community. She was preceded in death by her husband's Robert Scott, William Markland and Edward Ring, daughter, Bobbette Pippenger, PhD, sisters Elsie Umbeck Kinnard, Marie Ferrier Mast and brother Harry Hoyle, She will be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mable is survived and will always be loved by her daughter Barbara Johnson and six grandchildren, Kim, Robbie and Phil, Jr. (Bobbette's children) and Melissa, Chris and Kevin (Barbara's children). Among her grandchildren are and MD, a PhD, three JD's (attorneys) and a successful entrepreneur, all whom appreciate her legacy. She also will be missed by eleven gifted great grandchildren. What a blessing!
A frequent volunteer at Galesburg Schools and the Orpheum theater after her retirement. A world traveler, avid gardener and dancer she will be remembered for her caring friendships, her good spirit, great humor and generosity.
A private, graveside burial service will be held Saturday May 18th 10:00 am at Galesburg Memorial Gardens where she will join her daughter Bobbette, husband William Markland and parents Elsie and Sidney Hoyle.
In lieu of flowers you may donate in the name to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the charity of your choice.
