On the morning of Friday, August 20, 2021, Marci Wilson passed away at the age of 46. Marci was a beloved wife to her husband Rick of 27 years and mother to their two children, Nick (20) and Brent (15).
Marci Kam Saffel was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 12, 1974 to John and Sonia Saffel. She grew up in Doyline, Louisiana where she attended K-12th grade and upon graduation began her college career at Louisiana State University of Shreveport. Marci was smart, funny, athletic, and popular and had a bold personality, giving heart, and an incredible sense of humor. She never met a stranger and was the girl everyone called friend!
In 1994, she married the love of her life, Richard L Wilson III (Rick) of Haughton, Louisiana. That same year they moved to Florida and Marci continued her education at Florida Atlantic University, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Marketing degree. In 2000, their first son, Nick, was welcomed to the family with Brent following in 2006.
In 2004, the family relocated again and Georgia became home. Over the years, Marci worked in banking, managed a gym that she and Rick owned, and she even taught pre-school. In 2009 Marci chose to take on one of the most important roles in life: full-time mom to her incredible boys. She had an insatiable love for her family and often joked about being outnumbered by her guys, but she would have had it no other way! There was nothing on earth more important to her than spending time with her family!
Marci had a love for sports especially football! Her favorite teams were the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. Marci would not stray far from a television during a game and would spend hours yelling, screaming, and talking trash with her family and friends. Geaux Tigers, Geaux Saints! Marci was just as passionate about helping cancer patients, especially children, and often donated her hair to organizations such as Beautiful Lengths or Locks of Love in support of the American Cancer Society. Occasionally, she would comment about a gray hair that could be spotted; but she never colored her hair, so it could be donated. With patience, she would grow her hair long until she could donate the standard 8 inches; because she understood the positive impact real-hair wigs had in helping cancer patients regain self-confidence, strength, and hope!
Marci's presence in this world is already tremendously missed and the absence of it is deeply grieved; however, her sweet and beautiful spirit is so clearly felt all around us.
Marci Wilson is survived by her husband, Rick, and sons, Nick and Brent. She is also survived by her mother, Sonia Saffel, brother Michael Saffel, nieces Kirsten Saffel, Kallie Bianucci and Joni Small, nephew David Sheets and sister-in-law, Dondi Colbert. She was preceded in death by her father, John Saffel.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 18th from noon-2pm at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040. In lieu of additional flowers, her friends are asking that donations be made to the family through Venmo @rlwilson3. Donations will be used to cover medical costs incurred during her hospitalization, with any excess funds being donated to the American Cancer Society.
