Margaret Payne Shadburn

Margaret Payne Shadburn, age 90, of Cumming, Ga., passed peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Margaret was a member of Hope Fellowship Church in Cumming, a “steel magnolia” if there ever was one, and the glue that held her family together. Margaret’s beauty, vitality and energy always belied her age—she served her Lord and her community faithfully, always made sure everyone was welcomed and fed, and never passed up a good game of cards. In fact, she spent her last night on this earth playing Hand & Foot with her beloved sister, Kathy (Margaret won).

Margaret—or as she was known to so many, our precious Mema—is survived by her sisters Betty Jean Adams and Kathy Payne; brother Larry Payne; daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Allan Edmonds and Gail and Mark Petree; grandchildren Bre Humphries, Lindsey Trauger, Jake Petree and Shad Petree; and great-grandchildren Hayes and Drake Humphries and Harlyn and Isla Trauger. We know she heard the words “Well done good and faithful servant” as she joined Johnny, her childhood sweetheart and husband of 66 years, in the presence of Jesus.

Services will be held on August 28 at Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming, GA with Dr. Barry Crocker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00p.m. with funeral services for Margaret to follow at 3:00 p.m.
