Margaret Jordan Smith

Margie Smith was born Margaret Evelyn Jordan to Bernice and Vertice Jordan of Flowery Branch GA on March 12, 1944. She was a good Southern Baptist daughter attending Mt Salem Baptist Church every time the doors were open. She attended Flowery Branch Elementary School and South Hall High School.

 In 1964 she met the love of her life, Mr. Michael Smith of Monterey, California. Mr. Smith, having been recently discharged from the US Navy, was traveling around the country with his dog, Elvis. As he was passing through Flowery Branch, he met this ol’ girl. After five trips back and forth from California to Georgia and back, she finally convinced him to marry her. They were married at Mt Salem Baptist church April 15, 1967. An auspicious day for sure. Her father exclaimed to all, “Praise the Lord!” Her mother said, “That boy ain’t right.”

 The couple moved immediately to Santa Cruz where Margie set to work putting Mike through college. On his completion of college and a teaching certificate they settled in Forestville California on the Russian River where he taught in a small high school.

 They made a good life for each other in the little community of Forestville. They raised two children, Amy and Jordan. Both children are employed in education. Praise the Lord! 

Over the years, Margie did bookkeeping work for several small local businesses. Both were active in the Forestville United Methodist Church and volunteered in grade school and high school activities along with other local youth-oriented groups.

 On retirement, Margie and her husband moved to Habersham County Georgia where they were told more than once, “You ain’t from around here are you?” and “I don’t care how you did it in California” After hearing that for the hundredth time they moved to another small town, Mountain Park on the far side of Roswell. There seems to be a pattern here with small towns.

 Margie and Mike moved to the Cottages at Celebration Village Forsyth in April 2021. She waged a long and courageous but losing battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Finally succumbing, Mike at her side, on 5 January.

 Margie and Mike were married for 57 years, neener-neener Miss Bernice.

 Margie is survived by her husband, daughter Amy Smith and son Jordan Smith, his wife Joy and Granddaughter Elle Smith, brother Randy Jordan of Gainesville and Ron Jordan of Flowery Branch Georgia. She was preceded by her daughter Jennifer Smith and brother Royce (Buck) Jordan.
