Mary Bargeron Rucker, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2010 surrounded by her children and the loving care of White Oaks at Lanier. A native of Burke County Georgia, she was the eldest of three children of Pearl Heath Odom Bargeron and Henry Grady Bargeron. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Emory Evans Bargeron and sister, Margaret Bargeron Courson and brother-in-law Peter B. Courson. Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she was adored for her loving care and unselfish spirit. She was born in Waynesboro Georgia October 20, 1922. After graduating from Waynesboro High School she went to college for two years and then held her first teaching position in Toomsboro, Georgia. She later returned to college to earn her teaching degree at Georgia Womens College in Milledgeville Georgia. She taught in Claxton and Monroe, GA as well as spending summers doing missionary work in North Carolina. She moved to Cumming in 1951 as the bride of Walter H. Rucker, Sr. She taught for over 30 years in Forsyth County. She retired from teaching and then began her next career working at Cumming Library before becoming a bailiff for the Forsyth County Courts. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cumming and the Gleaners Sunday School class. She rarely missed a Sunday for over 50 years. Mary lived her life to the fullest, traveling to Europe, Egypt (where she rode a camel in her 70s) and went on several cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. She truly enjoyed her life and her friends. She was a life-long learner and teacher to everyone. Her compassion to everyone was beyond description. God did not put on this earth a more wonderful person and mother and she will be truly missed. She is loving survived by her children, Kim (Phillip) R. Davis of Jefferson, Walter H. Rucker, Jr. of Athens, Ann (Richard) Buice of Cumming, grandchildren, Dr. Megan D. Seabolt, Clermont, Christian P. Gill and Casey M. Gill, Cumming, step granddaughter Charity Lee, Winder, great granddaughter Katelyn Seabolt, sister-in-law Ruth Brannen Bargeron of Louisville, and very special friend Olive Thornton. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 3:00 pm at The First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Jolly officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Church Building Fund in her memory, 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia 30040. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
