Mary Jane Jacobson

Mary Jane Jacobson, age 67, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her husband of 44 years, Scot, by her side. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Arnie and Mickey Gabrielson, brothers Tim (Diane), Tom (Dawn) and Randy (Katey). Mary is survived by son Gabriel (Stephanie) of Melbourne, FL, son Benjamin of Portland, OR, son Nathan (Melissa) of Alpharetta, GA, sister Sue Bjerke (Scott) of Stockbridge, GA, sister Janny Tansil (Mark) of New York, NY, grandsons Wesley, Zachary, Cameron and Nicholas, all of Melbourne, FL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Austin, Minnesota on April 14, 1957. She grew up in Austin with her five brothers and sisters. She deeply cherished her family and shined in their presence.

Mary met Scot in high school and they were married on March 15,1980. Together they farmed on the family farm and began raising their first two sons. A job opportunity took them to Seattle, WA, where their third son was born. They later moved to Cumming, GA, where they built their life and raised their family. Mary was a devoted wife and great mother.

Mary worked at Equifax for 22 years as a project manager and received ‘exceeded expectations’ every year. Mary was hardworking and enjoyed work, but she always prioritized her family, core to her heart.

Mary loved having fun spending time with loved ones, playing board games and cards at the kitchen table, full of both laughter and meaningful conversation. She enjoyed tennis, swimming, hiking, and most of all trips with her family. They had many wonderful beach vacations together. Mary cherished her yearly sister trips to Sanibel Island with Sue and Janny. She loved spending time with her four grandsons.

Mary humbly gave service to others throughout her life. She taught Sunday school at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The family later were active members at Johns Creek Baptist Church. In later years, she enjoyed delivering food with Meals By Grace. Mary was quietly generous and giving. Most of all, she gave the gift of her kind and loving presence to those around her, “spreading a little joy and inspiration” as her mother had taught her.

In later years, facing dementia difficulties, she gracefully persevered, and continued to be true to her core: joyful, loving, and present for her loved ones. Throughout her life, Mary’s kindness, love and joy shined through. Her beautiful smile and loving presence is dearly missed.

Mary’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 23rd at 2pm with visitation 1pm prior at John’s Creek Baptist Church, 6910 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta, GA 30005. There will be a lunch following the service in the Heritage room.

Memorial donations may be made to “Meals By Grace” at www.mealsbygrace.org.

The Jacobson family wishes to thank and acknowledge the PruittHealth Hospice team for their many months of incredible, consistent, and supportive care for Mary and her family, with special thanks to Danny, Melissa, Rebecca, Susan, Lakita, Donna, and Mitz.
