Mary Jane (Wise) Murray (age 80) went home to be with her Lord and Savior, November 10 at North Fulton Hospital, Roswell, Georgia. Her husband of 60 years, two daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandson spent extended time with her that day.
"Jane" was born February 4, 1941, in Ancon, US Canal Zone, Panama. Jane attended Austin High School, El Paso, Texas, graduating in 1958, after which she attended the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Jane was secretary at the City of El Paso Water Department, taught in elementary schools in Texas, New Jersey, and California, and was a beauty consultant at Merle Norman Cosmetics. She lovingly raised three children, was an expert seamstress, and organized 18 family moves and relocations.
Jane loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served Him as High School Youth leader, Mountainside Chapel, Mountainside, New Jersey, Junior Church Director and Assistant Director for Daily Vacation Bible School at North Hills Alliance Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Secretary to Navigators Tri-state Director, Lafayette, Indiana, teacher in classes for new Christians at First Evangelical Free Church, Fullerton, California, home Bible study leader for First Evangelical Free Church, Fullerton, California, volunteer at Intouch Customer Service, couples small group leader at Brown's Bridge Community Church, Cumming, Georgia, and traveled on short-term ministry trips with her husband to 22 countries.
Jane was also an expert genealogist, a skillful hunter of bargains, and a genius at card and board games.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jeff and Jewel (Theus) Wise, brother Jeffrey (Linda) Wise, and sister Jeannette (Charles) Casey.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband, John S. (Steve) Murray, whom she married on June 16, 1961, at Immanuel Baptist Church, El Paso, Texas.
She also leaves daughter Janet (Terry) Purchase and sons Alex (Hanna) Mauren and Brett Mauren, son John Jeffrey (Kimberlee) Murray and sons Joshua Murray and Jontae Murray, and daughter Jill (Scott) Selvig and their children Megan (Jonathan) Jackson and Josiah (Sarah) Selvig. Jane also leaves behind sister Jerilyn (Michael) McGehee, brother-in-law Charles Casey, and sister-in-law Linda Wise along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Browns Bridge Community Church in Cumming, GA, with Rev. Brad Smith and Rev. Jim Erickson officiating. Interment for family only will be on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:30 AM at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
The family wishes to express its sincere thanks for the loving and caring support Jane received from staff at Celebration Village Assisted Living, The Oaks at Hampton Memory Care, and Homestead Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions in her memory to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Northpoint Community Church Global(x) Missions, or the ministry of your choice.
