Mary Ruth Lewis

Mary Ruth (Herren) Lewis, age 83, passed away on December 6, 2018, in Cumming, Georgia.

Mary Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe Emery Lewis, Sr.; her children, Joe Emery Lewis (Maggie) of Cumming, Georgia, Mary Jane Bannister (Earl) of Dallas, Georgia, Bonnie Lewis (Nan) of Atlanta, Georgia, Laura Lewis of Canton, Georgia, Bobby Lewis (Beth) of Rome, Georgia; her brother Bob Herren (Jesalee) of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kyrie Shalom Lewis; her parents, William Kelly and Flossie Anna Herren; and her brother Ray Herren.

Mary Ruth was born on February 17, 1935, in Paragould, Arkansas, to parents William Kelly and Flossie Anna Herren. She met Joe in college, Harding University, and married on November 24, 1955, at the age of 20. She was a loving mother to six children as she filled roles of nurturer, coach, cheerleader, teacher, counselor, and friend. She later worked outside of the home at Vanderlyn Elementary School and Tucker High School in DeKalb County. She retired from the school system and then went to school at the age of 60 to become a licensed Massage Therapist. She worked in this capacity until her victory over cancer forced her to retire at the age of 74.

Mary Ruth made an impact on everyone she met. She was loved by many and respected by all.

A memorial service in remembrance and celebration is scheduled for Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 3:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. Rev. Dr. Joyce Rennolds will officiate.
