Mary Catherine (Hammett) Seybold passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary was born in Annapolis, Maryland on January 5th, 1971 to James Staton Hammett and Yvonne (Lemire) Hammett and was the fifth child of 5 with 4 older brothers.

Mary is survived by her husband Darrin O. Seybold her children Sofia M. Seybold, and Gavin W. Seybold of Cumming, Ga. She is survived by her parents James and Yvonne Hammett of Cumming, Ga, brothers Peter Hammett and wife Courtney Hammett of Trenton, Ga, Michael Hammett of Cumming, Ga, James Hammett Jr and wife Pamela Hammett of Duluth, Ga and, John Hammett and wife Donna Hammett of Breckenridge, Co.

Mary was a 1989 graduate at Lakeside High School and graduate of Oglethorpe University with paralegal degree. Mary was part of an Army family which moved around frequently with many fond memories of living in Italy. She moved to Atlanta to attend high school where she remained to start her career in the insurance industry. While attending college she was a full-time nanny for the Gentry family providing love and care for Ryan and Whitney. She started her career as an executive assistant for Willis Carron and within 3 years became an Underwriter. Mary moved up to the bigger corporations over the years to become a very successful International Underwriter winning many awards and new business. Most importantly after Gavin was born, she became the CEO of the Seybold household where she devoted her time to loving her children and creating a happy family. She would volunteer at church regularly and became PTA president of May Howard elementary school.

Mary was an incredible mother, wife, daughter, sister and loving friend. Mary was the heart of her family. Family was very important to Mary; she was close with her father, brothers and cousins coordinating holiday gatherings and cousin vacations.

Mary loved gardening, hiking, walking, cooking and attending live music. She was a great friend that started a dinner club with her closest friends so they could connect monthly that lasted over 20 years. Mary loved to travel visiting New England, NYC, Italy, St Lucia, Colorado, Praque and whale watching in Hawaii. She was an artist that loved music, designing and painting. Mary loved sunsets and spending time outdoors with her butterflies and songbirds. She loved going to the beach and dreamed of becoming a mermaid. Mary was a such a special person wherever she went she made lifelong friends instantly and everybody loved Mary.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street Alpharetta, Ga 30009 on April 24th at 3pm.
