Melvin Bucky Daniel Buck

Melvin Daniel Buck (Bucky), 80, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with several illnesses including Parkinsons Disease.

A colorful and charming salesman by nature, Mr. Buck spent the majority of his working life as a Manager with the Prudential Insurance Company of America in Maryland and Georgia. After retiring from Prudential in 1992, he had many successful ventures in various businesses including real estate sales, construction, and entrepreneurship in and around St. Simons Island, Georgia. In 2012 he and his loving wife Luverne (Ahlquist) Buck of 56 years moved to Cumming, Georgia to enjoy life around their two youngest grandchildren.

Melvin was an avid golfer and although not the longest off the tee, he made up many strokes with his excellent short game and trusty Ping Answer putter. He also loved attending and watching sporting events, with his favorite teams being the Atlanta Braves, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Atlanta Falcons. He also had an affection for the teams where his sons and daughter attended college - the University of Maryland, the University of Georgia, and East Carolina University.

Melvin is survived by his sisters Carol (Ahlquist) and Tina (Bald), his wife Luverne, children Russell (wife Jan), Michael (wife Jennifer), and Kelley Barden (husband Shane). He is also survived by his granddaughters Rachel, Chelsea, Kendall and Kayla.

A man of many stories and sayings, his family and close friends look forward to a Celebration of Life party in his honor on December 9, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. at their daughter, Kellys home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research or the Seasons Hospice Foundation.
