Michael F. Goetz, a longtime resident in Lawrenceville/Cumming, passed away on June 30, 2019, following a lengthy illness. Michael was born in Omaha, Nebraska where he lived throughout his early childhood and into his teens. He joined the US Navy in 1959 and served our country in Viet Nam. He spent a good deal of time while in the Navy on the aircraft carrier, USS Orisknay. Michael continued his education upon leaving the Navy, then embarked on his successful career in IT management for the next thirty-five years. His employment opportunities took him and his family to California, Virginia, and finally, Georgia. He enjoyed an endless list of interests and hobbies throughout the years, most recently, the design and creation of custom writing pens. Michael is survived by his wife, Susan; sons Todd and David; daughter, Jennifer; and four grandchildren, Olivia, Emilee, Isabelle and Barrett. In addition, he is survived by three sisters and two brothers. A Memorial Service to celebrate Michael's life is scheduled for Friday, July 19, at Byars Funeral Home in Cumming, GA at 12:00 Noon. Following the service there will be an escorted procession to the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia for a brief Military Honors Ceremony.
