Myrtle Knox, 98, of Cumming, GA passed away on June 7, 2018 at Cumming Senior Living.
She was born January 18, 1920 in Forsyth County and was the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude Chastain.
She was also predeceased by her ex-husband Leroy Parr, her husbands Ervin Howard Newberry and Ronald J. Knox; two children Gregory Howard Newberry and Barbara Parr Thompson; a son-in-law Jack Thompson; and three siblings, Cliff Chastain, Hubert Chastain, and Retha Mae Nakashima.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda Armocida and son-in-law Michael F. Armocida and her daughter Sandra Jackson; nine grandchildren, Leslie and Lori Thompson; Lori, Frank (wife Staci), Donna and Michael A. Armocida; Allen, Steven (wife Maureen) and Amanda Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa and Emma Armocida and numerous nieces.
Myrtle worked hard all her life and had various jobs. During WWII she became an aircraft riveter and said that it was one of the better paying jobs available to women during that time. She was employed for the majority of her life as a waitress at Leb's Restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. A favorite story that she liked to tell was when she was selected to wait on Elvis Presley when he came into town. She said he was extremely polite and was the very first person to ever call her "Miss Myrt". She also was a secretary, a real estate agent and owned a farm. Later in life, she raised and sold chickens.
Myrtle enjoyed nature, gardening, watching and feeding the birds, reading books and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Myrtle was kind to everyone and loved by all. She will be deeply missed.
An inurnment will take place at Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, GA on June 23, 2018 at 12:00 noon preceded by a remembrance gathering at 11:30 am.
