Nancy Lee Harry

Nancy Lee Harry (nee McKinney), 89 years of age of Cumming GA, died peacefully in her home on February 18, 2025, following a valiant fight against cancer. She was born in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL, and had the distinction of being the first hospital birth in her family. She grew up in the sleepy town of Maroa, Illinois and graduated from Maroa High School. For over 30 years, she worked for a local accounting firm in Decatur, IL where she prepared taxes. She loved her many clients and looked forward to seeing them every year.

She was married for 43 years to Jerry D. Harry, who preceded her in death in 1996. They made their home, first in Clinton and then in Decatur, and raised a family. During their time together on this Earth, they enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping, often dressing in period clothing and traveling to various rendezvous camps where they slept in a tent and lived without any modern conveniences for days at a time just as the early frontier settlers once did.

Following the death of her husband, Nancy traveled near and far. Some of the places she visited included Las Vegas, Maine, North Carolina, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Austria. While at home, she was never too tired or too busy for a good game of cards, often playing Canasta or Pinochle with family and friends. In 2021, she moved to GA to be closer to family, especially her great-grandchildren.

Her parents Sadie McKinney (nee Garvin) and Roy McKinney preceded her in death. Her sisters, Dorothy Sage and Nadine Workman, preceded her in death, as well. She is survived by her children, Roger (Janet) Harry and Kathryn Harry; 2 grandchildren, Roger (aka RJ) Harry, Jr. and Andrew (Mia) Harry; and 2 great-grandchildren, Marie and Arthur.

Interment will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, IL where she will rest beside her beloved husband, Jerry. A memorial service to honor her will be held graveside.
