Her father, Joseph Topping was a US Air Force pilot and flight instructor and perished from a crash. Her mother, remarried and her name was changed to reflect her step fathers family name of Loresch.
Nancy was raised in Pittsburgh attended the University of Pittsburgh. She met the man of her dreams, Gareth Floyd Lewis while working at US Steel. The two married on May 6, 1960.
Following Garys executive career in Advertising and Marketing, the family lived in many wonderful communities including: Manhattan, Pittsburgh, Greenwich, Huntington, Holland (MI), Athens (GA), Hilton Head/Dawtaw, SC.
Although a very simple person when it came to fashion, Nancy loved to shop. She was always prepared with a thoughtful gift for each child/grandchild for Christmas (often purchased before the preceding summers end).
She was also a woman who loved routine. Daily she would visit her friends at Publix (Midway) and her beloved Gary at the Oaks. Gary suffers from severe Alzheimers/Dementia and has been in assisted living for the last year and a half. Nancy continued to do his laundry and never stopped taking care of his daily needs.
Nancy was a competitive, resilient woman. She battled breast cancer like it was the common cold. She lived for College Football and the success of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The last two years Nancy found her church home at Midway United Methodist Church. She made many wonderful friends and found solace in the Chapel. She also worked as a volunteer at Northside Hospital.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the church in her name.
