Nicholas Agati

Nicholas Agati was born June 14, 1916, Syracuse, New York. He passed away peacefully at his home in Marietta, GA on November, 11, 2010. He was 94 years old. The son of Sicilian immigrants, Nicholas was one of seven children. He served his country proudly during WWII honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of captain. He enrolled in college and graduated from Siena College in New York eventually moving to New York City to work for Fischbach and Moore. He was transferred to Atlanta in 1956 rising to the position of Vice President and became a central figure in the growth of his adopted hometown. He retired after 40 years at the age of 70 and shortly after began a second career as Director of Business Development for the general contractor Batson-Cook. He permanently retired after 15 years at the age of 90. During his career, he served on many prestigious and influential committees and boards in the administrations of Mayor Sam Massell and Governors Carl Sanders and Jimmy Carter. He was a life-long golfer with 4 hole-in-ones the last coming just 5 years ago at the age of 89. He was a founding member of Atlanta Country Club where he served or chaired many committees including hosting with his beloved wife, Jane, the annual anniversary party featuring the famous Agati family Italian sausage. He is survived by his wife, Jane Riggio Agati ; sons, Martin and his wife, Nancy of Atlanta, and Stephen Agati of Tucker ; granddaughters, Abigail and Catherine Agati ; brother, John Agati of Massena, NY ; and sister, Nancy Pompo of Syracuse, NY, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at St. Anns Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA on Tuesday, November 16th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Atlanta Country Club. He will be interned in a private cermanoy at a later date as Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made in his name to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. Byars Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Cumming, Georgia will be in charge of the arrangements, 678-455-5815.
