Nubia Pelaez

Nubia Pelaez, 82, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Nubia was born to the late Alfonso and Carmen Pelaez on November 28, 1940, in El Águila, Colombia. She then resided in New York City from 1958 until 1972 when she moved to Atlanta, GA. She then moved to Forsyth County in 1973. Nubia was predeceased by her mother and father, Alfonso and Carmen Pelaez, and her brother, Orlando Pelaez.

Nubia was a loving mother, Baba (grandmother), sister, daughter, and aunt. She is survived by her son Omar Castrillon, her daughter-in-law, Laura Castrillon, daughter, Ruth Castrillon Allison, and her son-in-law, Clay Allison; and her grandchildren, Haley Allison Holland (Josh Holland) and Kyle Allison. She is also survived by her siblings, Melba Pelaez, Yolanda Arango, Jairo Pelaez, Luz Pelaez, and Myriam Cruz as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nubia was a faithful believer; she shared God's love and kindness with all she met. She was passionate about the simple things in life like her loyal dog, Millie, the deer in her yard, birds singing, a warm hug, and preparing a home cooked meal for loved ones. Her most treasured gifts in life were her grandchildren and her loving family.

Nubia dedicated more than 20 years of her life volunteering as a Spanish translator for the Forsyth County health department, courthouse, and various doctors’ offices. She worked in the real estate field as a translator for many years.

She was an entrepreneur at heart and was never afraid to start a new business venture. After moving to Forsyth County in 1973, she opened an Italian restaurant, Rotonda’s, a frame shop, Frames ‘n Things, and a baby’s boutique, Baby’s World.
