Patricia Ann Southard Zuzick, 88, of Cumming, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 23, 2022. Pat was born in Bridgeport, CT, to Elmer and Ellie Southard. It was there she met her beloved husband Joe while ballroom dancing at Seaside Park. Once married, they settle in Monroe, CT, where they spent many happy years raising their family together. First, their “little girl with the curl”, then a son that made them so proud, and finally another daughter completed their happy family. She worked hard to make ends meet and provide a happy and loving home for her family.
Upon retirement they moved to the Roanoke, VA, area and then re-retired to Cumming, GA in 1998. Although her beloved husband’s passing in 2006 was a devastating loss, she continued to be a staple at her grandsons many ballgames, concerts and activities and was a beloved presence to many of their friends and their families too. As more family moved to Georgia over the years, her joy grew. The arrival of her oldest granddaughter also eventually meant the arrival of four beautiful great-grandchildren into her life. More recently the arrival of another granddaughter to Georgia gave her a chance to spend more time with her family.
Her Catholic faith was a strong and reassuring presence throughout her life. Although she will be greatly missed, we are filled with joy knowing she has been reunited in heaven with the love of her life Joe, her parents, brother Russell, and many beloved cousins and friends who have gone before her. We can hear Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller readying their bands, another jitterbug or a polka awaits.
Pat would be the first to say 88 years on this earth were not nearly enough. She loved her family fiercely and fought bravely until her last breath to spend every moment with them. She loved Hawaii, driving fast (which earned her the nickname “Granny Zoom Zoom” from her grandsons!) and a good shrimp cocktail, not necessarily in that order.
Pat will be greatly missed by her daughter Donna and husband Chuck Mennillo (Bridgeport, CT), her son Joseph and wife Barbara (Shelton, CT), and daughter Joanne and husband Kevin of Cumming, GA. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Anna and husband Kevin Paridee (Cumming, GA), Catherine and husband Tim Fasano (Cumming, GA), Joan and wife Crystal Zuzick-Carrion (Palmetto, FL), Joshua and wife Kailee Garrett (Alpharetta, GA), Caleb Garrett (Cumming, GA) and Jared Garrett (Cumming, GA). Great-grandchildren Shane, Avery, Charlotte and Colin Paridee also will mourn her loss.
Pat also leaves behind her cherished sister Sandra and husband Bob Robinson (Bridgeport, CT) and brother Bob and wife Sally Southard (Roanoke, GA). She was pre-deceased by her brother Russell Southard.
Family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 at Ingrams Funeral Home. A funeral will follow on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, GA 30022. Funeral attendees are encouraged to include yellow in their attire, a color she was weirdly obsessed with.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cumming Women’s Center new maternity home Living Hope, 133 Samaritan Dr., Cumming, GA 30040
