Peter Charles Kanellopoulos

Peter Charles Kanellopoulos left us and went “into the mystic” on August 28, 2023, at the age of 60. He was born to Charles and Helen Kanellopoulos of New London, Connecticut in 1963, and was a resident of Stonington, Connecticut until his passing.

A son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend, he was so much to so many. Peter left behind a loving mother (HelenKanellopoulos), father (Charles Kanellopoulos), two sisters (Fotica Kanellopoulos and Katherine Ventimiglia), as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. 

Peter had extraordinary empathy and love with a gentle demeanor and a genuine heart. His kindness extended to every stranger; and now in his final acts of kindness, he gives his life as an organ donor so that others can live on. 

Peter appreciated the simple things in life; the love of his family, a good dog, and a forest to get lost in. A fisherman and a hunter, he had a deep respect for all living creatures. He spent many years seeking solace in the natural world as his source of true knowledge and inner peace, walking with his beloved dog, Chupra, on the roadsless traveled. His dreams to explore the wild places of the world will continue to be carried out by his nieces, nephews, and great nieces – regarded as the children he never had. 

The family is at peace knowing that Peter’s spirit will be reunited with his nephew, Niko, and together they will walk the trails of heaven.  

Peter will be brought back to Georgia where he will be laid to rest in the Appalachian foothills near his family. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Saturday, September 2nd at 11 a.m. at Sts. Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, reflecting Peter's commitment to preserving the natural world he held so dear.
