Richard Thomas Hall (Dick) passed away on June 7, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Hall. They were married for sixty-six years.
He was born in Mount Vernon, New York on April 16, 1929. Dick graduated from Yale University in 1951 and participated in an MBA program at Columbia University concurrently with a full-time job. He served two years with the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War. After his discharge, he moved to Connecticut and spent the next twenty-one years in account management with three top 5 advertising agencies in New York – seven years each at Benton & Bowles, Ted Bates and Doyle Dane Bernbach. He was elected the company’s youngest Vice President at Ted Bates. From the advertising world, Dick switched gears and founded a travel company, developing it from birth to a very successful business in a highly competitive climate. He and his wife Polly retired to The Landings in Savannah in 1991. After 26 years they moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to daughter, Karen and her family.
Dick remained active in retirement. For more than twenty-seven years, he had been responsible for the development and execution of the advertising for Four Seasons Travel. He also served as Marketing Chairman on the Board of the Savannah Music Festival, and on the founding Board of The Landings Company. Other volunteer activities were teaching 8th grade classes in the Junior Achievement, Landings Club committees and the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. His interests were many and included family activities, travel, sports, competitive bridge, art, music and dance. He was particularly fond of the outdoors, nature and animals, often hiking in Vermont and participating in several photo safaris in Africa.
Dick is survived by his three children – Mark Hall (wife Nancy), Laura Peterson (husband Chuck), Karen Jenkins (husband Dan), nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
