Born 5/2/1926 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Richard “Doc” Gunther formerly of Middletown NJ peacefully passed away in Cumming Ga on 2/1/25 at the age of 98. Richard is being remembered as a husband to Ann Marie, a father to Donna and Ricky, a son to Jesse his mother, and his father Alfred.
Richard graduated High School in 1944 and entered the United States Navy where he served as a Corpsman on the USS Repose a Hospital Ship served in the pacific and into Asia. Richard was awarded many WWII service medals and discharged in 1946 from the Navy after his ship was stationed in Shanghai China.
Richard graduated in 1950 from Saint John’s University Jamaica NY with a pharmacy degree. He worked as a pharmacist while courting his wife Ann Marie Gunther. Together they started a Pharmacy business in East Keansburg NJ and eventually as a family business with daughter Donna also a pharmacist at Lloyds Pharmacy Port Monmouth NJ until his retirement.
Richard was an avid salt water boater and fisherman as well as Golfer. He was a member of Beacon Hill Country Club. He was a Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Elks member in Middletown NJ. Richard and Ann enjoyed traveling the world together until Ann passed away in 2017.
Richard was father to her a son Richard (Ricky) 1962-2016. He is survived by daughter Donna Ann Sigmund of Dawsonville Georgia. He was the proud grandfather to Peter Richard Sigmund of Canton Georgia and Stephanie Nicole Sigmund of Dawsonville Georgia.
Richard was Communicant of Good Shepherd Catholic church in Cumming Ga. Doc will be interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown NJ. With his wife and son.
