Richard H. Williamson, age 72, of Atlanta, passed away September 12, 2014. Dick wore the wings of a Delta Air Lines Captain. He joined Delta in 1969 as Second Officer on the Convair 880. In 1972 he was promoted to First Officer and served in this position on the DC-9, Convair 880, DC-8, and the L-1011. As Captain, he was first assigned to Delta''s B-737 fleet, and in the 1990''s he flew the 757, 767, and MD-11. In 1993 he was promoted to Senior Flight Instructor and returned to flying the line in 1994 as Captain on the 767, and MD-11 in 1997. In 2002, he retired as Captain and Lead Line Check Pilot. He was a graduate of Huron High School in Huron, Ohio, and Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran of the United States Navy in the Attack Squadron VA-176. Dick married and leaves behind his childhood sweetheart of 48 years, the former Carole Ford of Huron, Ohio, his two children, Richard H. Williamson III and Kristen Mallory, son-in-law Joe Mallory, and grandchildren Bryn Mallory, Macie Williamson, Owen Williamson and Bennett Williamson. He was the son of Dr. Richard (Ruth) Williamson, "big brother" to Dr. Tom (Tricia) Williamson, Dr. John (Judi) Williamson, and Ann (John) Meier, brother-in-law to Bob (Jenny) Ford, and Cathy (Lester) Parker, and uncle to Sarah, Jane, Chase, Reagan, Andrew, Zach, Lizzie, Johnny, Elizabeth and Alison. Dick enjoyed his retirement with family, friends, acquaintances, beloved grandchildren and his many furry four-legged friends. He was an outstanding human being and his death is deeply felt by those who knew him.
