Robert N. (Nick) Youdell, age 89, of Cumming, GA, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021. Mr. Youdell was a devoted family man, a patriot who lived by his principles, and a good friend to everyone who knew him. He served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Navy, and was proud that his family has served in the U.S. Navy for 4 generations.
Born in Watervliet, MI, "Nick" worked as an Industrial Engineer for Clark Equipment in Benton Harbor, MI, for 22 years. He then worked for several other industries in S.W. Michigan until his retirement in 1994, when he and his wife Susan moved to Franklin, NC; with a final move to Cumming, GA in 2003. Mr. Youdell was an active member of the United Methodist Church since 1958, singing in church choirs in Benton Harbor and Stevensville MI, Franklin NC, and Cumming, GA.
Mr. Youdell was a Life Member of the American Legion, served on the Board of Cumming Post 307, and was selected as Legionnaire Of The Year in 2009. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion in Franklin, NC, also serving on Color Guard & Funeral Detail. He was a member of the VFW, and served for 14 years as an Emergency Room Volunteer at Northside Hospital Forsyth. In 2015, Mr. Youdell received the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal of Honor for his service to the community
Nick was a life-long fan of the University of Michigan athletic teams and the Detroit Tigers; and was an avid fisherman, bow-hunter, and golfer. An experienced carpenter and craftsman for many years, he made furniture, canoes, and also carved exceptional figures of marine life and waterfowl.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Susan Roper Youdell; his daughter, Pamela Bousquet (Raymond) of Winter Haven, FL; his son, Mark (Marjorie) Youdell of Cumming, GA; three grandsons - Robert, Daniel and R. Nicholas Bousquet; two granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Youdell; one step-grandson, Josh Virgadamo, and one step-granddaughter, Heather Potter; one brother, Michael Youdell of Coloma, MI; one sister; Vicki Letke of Bridgman, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lena Youdell, and his brother Gerald Youdell, all of Watervliet, MI.
Memorial Services held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Cumming First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Boston City Cemetery, Boston, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Music Department of the Cumming, Georgia, First United Methodist Church, 770 Canton Hwy, Cumming, GA 30040, Attention: John Hutchinson Director of Music.
