Bob graduated from Burrillville High School in Rhode Island in 1973. He grew up playing hockey and baseball. He loved to reminisce on his childhood baseball days and the projects he completed in woodshop. After high school, he worked as an auto mechanic for 30 years. Although this wasn’t his formal, lifelong career, he was forever an auto mechanic for his family.
In June of 1987, Bob moved to Florida where he worked as an auto insurance appraiser and where he met the love of his life, Dana (Burkitt) Plante. Bob and Dana were married on May 22, 1999 and blended their families. They enjoyed many road trips and cruises with their children throughout the years.
In May of 2018, Bob and Dana moved to Georgia to be closer to family, especially their most recent grandchild at that time, Oakley. Bob very proudly spent his days doing anything and everything for her. Oakley and "Papa" were thick as thieves.
Bob was an extremely well rounded handyman, being able to work on cars, homes, electrical, and woodwork. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed hockey, baseball, and football, especially his beloved New England Patriots. He was a loving and very devoted family man who cherished his family immensely, especially his grandchildren. He was the definition of selfless and would drop everything to help his friends and family. Bob and Dana were known to open their home to their loved ones in need. Bob loved to grill, cook and host family and friends. He always said, “if you leave hungry, it’s your own damn fault.” He is known as being easy going, quick witted, and very intelligent in many areas.
He will be honored and celebrated by many for his dedication and generosity towards others. His greatest joys in life were being married to the love of his life, spending time with his family, and indulging in watching sports. Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Dana; his children, Keri and his wife Erin Christensen, Kelly Christensen and her fiancé Chris Brown, Stacey Plante, and Robert Plante, Jr. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Cambree, Ashley, Austin, Oakley, Camryn, Aubrey, and Sebastian, as well as his sister, Cheryl Thongnak and brothers, Michael Plante and David Plante.
Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he is free of pain and with some of his favorite loved ones that greeted him when he reached his eternal resting place.
We will be celebrating Bob’s life Monday, July 25, 2022, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. The funeral home is located at 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040.
