Robert "Bob" Pokorny, age 86 of Gainesville, GA stood in the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
He was born in Bellaire, Ohio on June 4, 1925. He is presided in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Pokorny, brothers Frank, Edward, and William Pokorny, and sister Agnes Kaurich. He is survived by his wife Carol, married 63 years, Sons Albert Denny(Carol) of Alto GA, Robert Pokorny(Cynthia) of Tucson AZ, daughters Linda Luce of Gainesville, GA and Pamela Parrish(Cleve) of Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are brothers Lloyd Pokorny(Dorothy) of Maryland, George Pokorny(Dorothy) of Ohio, sisters Wilma Lucas of Ohio, Jean Magree of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He had 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the WWII Pacific Theatre, serving a a boatswains mate on an LST. He married Carol Sampson Denny on September 4, 1948. He worked at Reliance Electric, Ashtabula Ohio, from 1947-1980 and transferred to the Gainesville plant in 1980, working full time as a production Supervisor until his retirement in 1990. . He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church where he was active in Senior Sunday school group and library ministry.
He was known for his love of family, sense of humor, logical problem solving abilities, generosity and compassion. He enjoyed his garden and woodworking projects He has donated his body to medical science and therefore there will be no calling hours or memorial services per his request. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be sent to Blackshear Place Baptist Church or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
