Robert Cameron Vaught, born in Atlanta, Georgia, peacefully passed at his home, surrounded by his family, on October 18, 2023.
Cameron attended Westminster School before transferring and completing his schooling at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, a venerable and cherished institution that contributed greatly in making him the ambitious and exemplary man we all came to know and admire. During his time at Christ School, Cameron served as Prefect, was a multi-sport letterman, and 4-year honor student. He was awarded an all-inclusive Morehead scholarship to the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1973. In 1991 he co-founded a water treatment company, Neptune Water Services, a successful venture that eventually earned him the revered byname “The Water Doctor”.
He enjoyed being the patriarch of a raucous household of 5 children. His greatest joy was watching his children excel in their numerous activities, sports, and life.
He was an avid reader, often devouring multiple books per week. He had a true passion for all things outdoors ranging from camping and hiking with family to tending a beautiful garden at home. Always with a dog at his side, he often embarked on wintry expeditions along the Appalachian trail, and in his later years, much to the dismay of his ever-patient wife, took up motorcycle riding.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laine Taylor Vaught, whom he married in 1984, his children Taylor Vaught, Whitney (Patrick) Garhan, Hunter (Janie) Vaught, Logan Vaught, and Clayton Vaught, two grandchildren Crosby & Harrison Garhan, and his brother John Barrington Vaught.
A special thank you to the hardworking medical team at Emory Winship and to his life-long friends at Christ School.
At Cameron’s request, the family will have a private Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be made to his beloved Christ School:
