Roger W. Stammer died September 10, 2024. He was born on February 8, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Wilbert and Edna. Roger was a graduate of Christian Brothers College High School. He then attended the Missouri School of Science and Technology receiving his Bachelor of Science (B.S.E) in Electrical Engineering. During his time in college, Roger was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he served as President and House Manager. In addition, he was Vice President on the St. Patrick’s Board, member of IEEE and participated in the ROTC program.
Upon graduation he was commissioned a second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. The next day Roger married his true love of 63 years Kay Ellen (nee Bumb) on January 21, 2024.
His long successful career started with the Western Electric Corporation in Chicago. Shortly after starting his career, he proudly served his country. Called to active duty in June, 1961, he was assigned to the basic officers’ course at the U.S. Army Signal School. Upon completion, he was assigned to the Experimental Stations Section, USASRPA. During his stay with the agency he was assigned to many special projects, spending more than six months overseas. After completing his service in the Reserves, Roger was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He continued his career with a large electrical contractor in St. Louis, Missouri, retiring after 36 years. During that time, he was on the Board of Directors of NECA Illinois Chapter and served on various committees.
After retirement, Roger and Kay moved to Georgia to be closer to their family. He was very proud and active participant in his children’s lives. During his life, he enjoyed outdoor sports Including salmon fishing in Alaska, golf and trips to the beach. He served on the community HOA. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, never missing any sport or activity of grandchildren and his many walks at the part with Zeus, the beloved Chocolate Lab.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Edna. He is survived by his wife Kay, their two sons Mark (Lisa) and Christopher (Karen) and grandchildren, Lindsay (Matt), Ian (Hannah), Carmen (Andrew), Kathryn (Matt) and great-grandchildren Palmer, Kirkland, Ali, Sam and Asher. He is also survived by siblings Bruce (Marian deceased), Gary (Marsha), Michael (Donna), MaryKay (Dennis) and sister-in-law Jan (Ron) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A small private funeral service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery.
