Roger was born in Fort Collins, Colorado to Obie and Joan Young. He spent his formative years in Great Bend, Kansas before joining the U. S. Navy. Roger was active duty in the Navy for 4 years during the Vietnam War and served in the Navy Reserves for 19 years. He was proud of his years of service and enjoyed attending the reunions for his ship the U.S.S. Wedderburn - DD684.
Roger attended Fort Hays State University and joined AT&T where he worked for 30 years. Roger was a member of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corp and continued to coach, support and attend Drum Corp International events.

Roger had a servant’s heart which was evident in his service to the Boy Scouts, through the Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis, and in each church he attended. Roger was a member of The American Legion, the VFW, and a regular donor to the American Red Cross. He and Carolyn enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV, visiting with relatives and friends, and attending Southern Gospel concerts.
