Ron Bloom

Ronald “Ron” Leo Bloom, 80, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away at home on October 17, 2024, with his loving wife Judy Lyon by his side. 

Ron was born on December 9, 1943, in Marshfield, WI. Ron was the son of the late Beulah Virginia Foelsch (George) and Leo Henry Bloom (Vivien). Ron has two brothers, Michael George Foelsch (Susan) and Dennis Lee Bloom (Pamela). Ron’s sister is the late Patricia Ann Foelsch. Ron will be missed by his cousin “Snookie” Paulette Schmidt and his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his friends. 

Ron grew up in Unity, WI. Ron was raised by his parents and his Grandparents Bernice & Richard Witte and Eliza and Henry Bloom. Ron attended Colby High School, Colby, WI; where he was voted “best dressed.” Ron graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO; He majored in Agriculture and Business Administration. While at college Ron pledged Delta Sigma Phi; Ron has enjoyed lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers. 

Ron received his commission as an Officer in the Army in 1968. Ron served his country in the Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Mekong Delta, Republic of Vietnam. On June 19, 1969, Ron was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism for his brave action as Platoon Leader on a mission in Long An Province, Vietnam. Ron later became a Captain. 

Ron worked in Sales and Sales Management at Xerox for over 33 years. Ron’s tenacity & expressive charm served him well at work & in life. He has wonderful friends and memories from Xerox. 

In Atlanta Ron met the love of his life Judy Lyon, and they were married at Sea Island, GA on October 18, 1997. Ron and Judy made their home on Lake Windward in Alpharetta, GA. They share their home with their precious cat. 

Ron embraced life. He loved: Judy, his family, cats/animals, snow skiing, the beach, sailing at Lake Lanier & the Caribbean, Missouri Football, the Braves, his home, friends & Lake Windward community, rafting up & playing corn hole with the Bourbon Boys. Ron was dedicated to his community and faith. He attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Ron served his neighborhood through the Homeowners Association Board, Lake Windward Lake Committee, and as a board member of the Lake Windward Yacht Club. 

Ron will be deeply missed by his friends and family. He was a person who made friends easily and had a great sense of fun. While we mourn his passing, Ron’s desire to help others and Ron’s love and zeal for life ensure we will think of him always with joy and fondness. 

We want to thank Musonda and Nurse Whitney, who helped care for Ron at home near the end of his life. We also want to thank the many dear friends and neighbors who stepped up to help Ron and Judy in countless caring ways during these last four months of great upheaval and need. You were there for us. 

A service will be held on Tuesday, October 29th 1pm : Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 5390 McGinnis Ferry Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30005. The Visitation will be 11:30am -12:50pm, before the service at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

Ron will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 30th 1pm at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114. Those who wish to attend the Ceremony need to be at the Public Information Center in the Cemetery by 12:30pm. Graveside military honors will be conducted.
