Ruth James Baker, age 93, of Cumming, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010. She was born February 23, 1917 to the late Tucker Dennis James and Ida Anders James in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Ruth married Roy Lee Baker on May 27, 1933 he Preceded her in death as did her two younger sisters Christine James Wertz and Edna James Ceccoli. Ruth attended Emory University School of Nursing in Atlanta and became an LPN in 1945. She worked with Dr. George F. Bond in the Valley Clinic and Hospital in Bat cave, NC. She was a private duty nurse for several years. In 1956 she started an Elder Care Home on Springdale Road in Atlanta. In September 1963 she was one of forty-one outstanding women from the Atlanta area to make the list of whos Who of American Women. She purchased the old Harris Regional Hospital on Court House Hill in Sylva, N.C., converted it to an Inn and named it Ridgeway Inn. She opened an Antique Shop and did estate sales in various locations in the Atlanta Area; traveled the Eastern United States buying and selling antiques and on several occasions she took some of her grandchildren with her. This was an experience the grandchildren will never forget. Survivors include three daughters, Anna Ruth Baker Godbee of Cumming, GA, Sondra Baker Hays Odom husband Oscar of Fernandina Beach, FL, Olivia Baker Thomason and husband Larry of Stone Mountain, GA, eight grandchildren, sixteen Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great Grandchild and one Niece. Graveside services will be held, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Oak Dale Cemetery in Hendersonville, N.C. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
