It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that Michael and Kelly Monahan announce the tragic loss of their son Ryan Monahan, age 15. In addition to his parents, Ryan was beloved by his 3 older brothers; Alex, Dylan and Jacob Monahan. He will be missed by his grandparents; Suzanne Monahan, Ed Flach, Stephen and Cathy McCann in addition to many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather John (Jack) Monahan.
Ryan was born in Paoli, Pennsylvania on January 23, 2009 and lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania, before moving to Georgia in 2015. He attended Forsyth County School District and was currently a sophomore at Lambert High School. Ryan had intentions of dual enrolling at the University of North Georgia in Math and Engineering. This school year introduced him to a new passion for Chemistry but reinforced his continued displeasure in foreign language. In his freshman year at Lambert, Ryan was on both the JV and Varsity wrestling teams.
Outside of school, Ryan had many diverse interests. He was always helping his dad with projects around the house. A lover of birds, he anonymously built and replaced all of the bird houses in his community nature trail. He enjoyed making things with his 3D printer and just recently taught himself and obtained licensure for flying drones. He was developing a love of travel and created memories skiing in Utah, snorkeling in Curaçao, swimming in St Thomas and St Croix, and his most recent trip was to Spain. Although one of his fondest moments was more local, petting Capybaras at the North Georgia Zoo. He spent many weekends mountain biking throughout the metro Atlanta area, kayaking and fishing. Whether you were running a local errand with him or sightseeing in Chicago, you would most likely find yourself climbing fences, pulling up rocks or solving riddles to uncover a geocache.
His parents were so proud of his intelligence, talents and skills, but most of all, his reputation of having a respectable character. They grieve the lost opportunities for him to share that with the rest of the world. In one last act of giving, Ryan was able to make a tissue donation to LifeLink and gift so many others with a chance to extend and improve their own lives.
