Samuel Houston Gore, of Suwanee GA, tragically passed away from a stroke, on September 11, 2022 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth. Sam was born on June 23, 1936 in Tulsa, OK.
After graduating from Owensboro High School, he attended Wabash College, served two years in the United States Army, and then graduated from the University of Illinois. He was proud to have been a life loyal Sigma Chi. He went to work in the field of publishing with Prentice Hall, and settled his family in Atlanta, GA. He later worked for Random House and Harcourt Brace before retiring at the age of 65.
Sam lived a full life, where he enjoyed traveling with Ruth, and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan from the very beginning and had a huge heart for animals. He loved playing tennis and was one of the first Alta players. He also enjoyed playing golf in Atlanta and in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he and Ruth lived for many years. He never met a stranger and was uniquely entertaining to all who encountered him.
He is survived by his daughters, Darci (husband, Mark) Jones and Stacy Prettyman. As well as grandchildren Rachel Jones, Michael Fandos, Mitchell Fandos and Maggie Borella.
A celebration of life will be held at Celebration Village, in Suwanee GA on Sunday, September 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 – all are invited. A small family graveside service will be held Monday, September 19 at 2:00 at Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his life may make a donation in his memory to The Atlanta Humane Society.
Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040 has been entrusted with Mr. Gore’s final arrangements
