Sandra "Sandy" Patricia Beaver was a caring wife, mother, sister, and friend. Sandy cared deeply for others and was known for her huge heart and her generous spirit. Sandy left this world on October 31, 2021 (age 70) after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.
Sandy was born in Camden, NJ and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School (PA) and Upper Iowa University. She leaves behind her beloved husband Chuck; her son John; and daughter Jennifer and her husband Joshua. She also leaves a brother Ed Rose, as well as other treasured family members. She was preceded in death by her mother Mae MacEachern and brother George MacEachern.
The simplest pleasures in life brought immense joy to Sandy. Sandy loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends, always ensuring there were plenty of leftovers to take home. An avid gardener and bird watcher, her yard was her sanctuary, filled with beautiful plants, flowers and the many birds who called her yard home. Sandy was a talented artist who enjoyed painting and quilting. In retirement she found enjoyment in tracing her ancestry back to Charlamagne in 748 A.D.
Sandy's true passion in life was to transform the lives of others and her community. She was instrumental in changing the community in Forsyth County and leaves behind a great legacy through her work. Sandy spent the last 19 years of her career as the Executive Director of The Place of Forsyth County (retired 2014), providing residents with assistance with financial needs, housing, clothing, food, etc. Sandy was responsible for transitioning The Place from a Catholic Social Service agency to an independently run (non-government) agency. She spearheaded the fundraising efforts that allowed The Place to move from their original location (a single-family home) to its current location, a large multi-level facility with a community center, food pantry and thrift store, debt-free. In all her years as Executive Director Sandy operated The Place debt-free with no government funding, allowing for services to be provided to community members with little to no government intervention.
Sandy's family members will continue to honor her life and legacy by living each day to the fullest and striving to live as she would, caring for others and making a difference. Never one for accolades or awards, Sandy's family is thankful for the opportunity to share their deep admiration for her life's work by sharing a small glimpse into her accomplishments and contributions to her community and the lives of so many.
