Scott Darnell

Scott gave his heart to the Lord at 10 years old. Always an early riser and eager to get the day started, he went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning. Scott spent almost all of his life as a resident of Forsyth County. He graduated in 1982 from Forsyth County High School, in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Polytech University, and with a master's degree in New Testament Theology in 2008 from Johnson Bible College. Scott loved learning. An avid reader, he was knowledgeable in many subjects, but he particularly loved studying history, religion, and the Bible. Scott spent the majority of his professional career as a mechanical engineer with MeadWestvaco Inc. where he travelled the world working to solve problems and entertain others in conversation with his dry wit and strong southern accent. Most recently, Scott had taken his years of experience and skill to join Kimberly-Clark Inc.; however, the work he loved the most was the calling placed in his heart at 19 years old... teaching the word of God. Scott had a special gift in understanding the Bible and being able to carry that word to others. He was able to speak to congregations at almost every church in Forsyth County, several across the state, and a few out of state. The most special times, though, were with his Sunday School classes. A member of First Baptist Church of Dawsonville, he loved his Sunday School class and his church. Scott's surviving family members include his wife of 27 years, Dr. Janice Darnell and their son Brice Darnell. Additionally, he is survived by his parents, Stanley & Sue Darnell, brother Steve & Melissa Darnell, Harold & Jo Ann Smith (father & mother in-law), Jason & Alison Smith (brother in-law). Surviving nieces and nephews, Kayla Darnell, Sophia Darnell, Sawyer Smith, & Sydney Smith. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Darnell, Katherine Darnell (step-grandmother), Weldon & Dean Corn all of Cumming, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 9th at First Baptist Church Dawsonville with Rev. Samuel Reed, Rev. Danny Bennett and Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.
